The former leader of the Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahen, and his wife have taken legal action against Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, accusing him of defaming them during a Thursday, March 24, press event.
The lawsuit, officially lodged on Thursday, April 24, centers around allegations Dr. Ayine made in his public address, where he linked the couple to a number of criminal offences.
The plaintiffs argue the accusations were untrue, baseless, and have gravely impacted their lives.
They are requesting significant financial compensation, labelling the Attorney General’s remarks as “highly offensive, defamatory.”
The couple believes the statements, aired on multiple media platforms, have seriously damaged their integrity and standing in both personal and professional settings.
“a. Exemplary and punitive damages against the Defendant for publishing and/or broadcasting highly offensive, defamatory material of and concerning the Plaintiffs in his press conference dated the 24th day of March 2025.b. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from further publishing and/or broadcasting or causing to be published and/or broadcast the said or similar words defamatory of the Plaintiff.c. Costs, including lawyer’s professional fees.”
As part of their legal demands, the Adu-Boahens are asking the court to grant the following reliefs.
They maintain that the Attorney General’s comments have caused irreparable harm to their public image and careers.
Under the court’s rules, Dr. Ayine has eight days from the time he is served to officially respond.
If he does not, the court may rule in favour of the plaintiffs by default.
