Experienced Ghanaian coach Abdul Karim Zito is set to become the new head coach of Asante Kotoko.
His expected appointment follows the sacking of Prosper Narteh Ogum on Monday, April 22, after a string of poor results.
Under Ogum, Kotoko went four games without a win and are currently fourth on the Ghana Premier League table with 47 points from 28 matches.
The club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC), led by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, has chosen Zito—who is currently the head coach of Dreams FC—as the ideal replacement.
Zito is a former Kotoko player and a highly experienced coach. Over the years, he has handled top teams like Hearts of Oak, King Faisal, WAFA SC, B.A. Stars, and Medeama SC.
He recently made headlines by leading Dreams FC to the semi-finals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup—a historic feat for the club.
Kotoko fans are hoping Zito’s return will help turn things around for the team, which has struggled in the second half of the 2024/25 league season.
Kotoko’s next match is against Aduana FC on Sunday, Matchday 29, at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Despite their league setbacks, the Porcupine Warriors are still in the MTN FA Cup and will face Berekum Chelsea in the semi-finals.
