Asante Kotoko’s Technical Director and interim coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has criticised strikers Albert Amoah and Kwame Poku for being selfish and unfocused during their goalless draw against Hearts of Oak in Sunday’s Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Despite the 0-0 result, Kotoko moved to the top of the Ghana Premier League table, while Hearts dropped to sixth place.
Zito downplayed any talk of healthy competition between his frontmen, suggesting their actions are rooted in individual ambition rather than team success.
I don’t think it’s about rivalry ; it’s about lack of focus and selfishness,” Zito said. “Everyone wants to score, to stand out, to be the hero.
But football is a team sport. In Europe, they value assists just as much as goals. Players support each other to succeed as a unit.
While Kotoko fans celebrated their rise to the top of the league, Zito’s post-match remarks pointed to internal concerns that could threaten the Porcupine Warriors’ title ambitions if not addressed.
