The Ghana Police Service has successfully obtained a court order to prevent the Generational Right Protection Society (GRPS) from holding a three-day anti-galamsey protest at the Jubilee House.
According to a statement, the Police confirmed that the GRPS had been informed of the application, which is scheduled for hearing at the Accra High Court on Friday, April 25, 2025.
The protest, which will be led by media figure Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, is planned to take place from Monday, April 28, to Wednesday, April 30, and aims to push the government to take immediate action against the irresponsible mining activities that are damaging Ghana’s forests, water bodies, and communities.
Afrifa-Mensah also indicated that the protest’s duration might be extended to a month, depending on how participants behave.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he made it clear that the protest is not intended to incite discontent or tarnish the government’s image. He emphasized that, unless a court injunction is issued, concerned citizens will not be prevented from exercising their civil rights.
