The Blackstar Experience, a major programme focused on promoting tourism, culture, and the creative arts in Ghana, will officially be launched on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
The launch event is set to take place at the Freedom and Justice Monument at Black Star Square in Accra.
The announcement was made by Rex Owusu Marfo, Coordinator of the Blackstar Experience, in a post on Facebook.
Described as the flagship cultural initiative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the Blackstar Experience aims to redefine and celebrate Ghanaian identity, attract investment, create jobs, and boost tourism. It will feature year-round activities across various creative fields, including music, art, film, and education.
According to President John Dramani Mahama, the programme is a key part of the NDC’s 2024 manifesto and is designed to position Ghana as the gateway to Africa for the global diaspora.
He explained that the initiative will include curated cultural, historical, and artistic events, developed in partnership with the private sector, government agencies, diplomatic missions, and other stakeholders.
Activities under the Blackstar Experience will include concert party competitions, film screenings, and lively street carnivals, all aimed at showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage to both locals and international visitors.
"The Pan African Month will be a part of the Blackstar Experience. It will include street carnivals, film week, fashion festival, food fair, theoretical and drama performances, concert party competitions, and monthly domestic tourism destinations," President Mahama said, stressing that their aim is to position the Blackstar Experience as a uniquely Ghanaian tourism brand.
He made this statement while presenting the State of the Nation Address in Parliament on February 27, 2025.
