Deborah Seyram Adablah, a former National Service personnel, has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for contempt of court after defying a court order and launching scathing attacks on the presiding judge via social media.
According to a report by Joy News on May 6, 2025, the Accra High Court issued a bench warrant for Adablah’s arrest after she failed to comply with an earlier directive to hand over a Honda Civic vehicle to the court registrar. The court had ordered the car, which has registration number GC 7899-23, to be kept in safekeeping pending the outcome of a civil suit she filed against her former partner, banking executive Ernest Kwasi Nimako.
Adablah’s legal woes were further compounded by two videos she released online, in which she harshly criticised the presiding judge, Justice John Bosco Nabarese. In the videos, she accused the judge of bias, questioned the integrity of Ghana’s judiciary, and dismissed the contempt proceedings against her as “dead on arrival.”
The court found her actions to be in direct contempt and moved swiftly to enforce the law.
Adablah had previously filed a lawsuit against Nimako, alleging he breached promises made to her during their romantic relationship. Among other claims, she sought ownership of the Honda Civic, which she said was a gift from Nimako.
Her refusal to surrender the car and her online attacks on the judge ultimately led to her conviction and imprisonment.
She is currently serving her sentence following her arrest.
