President John Dramani Mahama has chosen popular Ghanaian actress and politician Ebi Bright to take charge of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly as its new Metropolitan Chief Executive.
The announcement was made through a press release from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on April 23, 2025.
Her nomination follows the laws in Ghana’s Constitution and the Local Government Act. Ebi Bright, who stood for the Tema Central parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2024, is one of 70 people picked by the President to lead various districts across the country. However, all the nominations must be approved by their local assemblies before they can start work.
Before entering politics, Ebi Bright was well-known across the country for her work as an actress and media personality. She later joined the NDC and quickly became a recognized figure in the party, using her fame and strong communication skills to connect with people.
In 2016, she ran for Parliament in Tema Central on the NDC ticket. Even though she didn’t win, her campaign attracted the attention of many young and city voters and helped the party gain more support in the area. She made two more attempts in 2020 and 2024 but lost both times to the current NPP Member of Parliament, Charles Forson.
