A 24-year-old farmer named Wisabu Kwame is on remand for two weeks by the Nkwanta South Magistrate Court after being linked to the death of his five-year-old daughter.
The heartbreaking event happened on April 27, 2025, in the village of Pawa, located in the Nkwanta South District of the Oti Region.
Kwame was taken into custody after authorities were notified about the girl's condition.
Detective Bright Nkansah, who is handling the case as the police prosecutor, narrated the disturbing details of the girl’s passing to the court.
He explained that on the day of the incident, Kwame and his daughter were spending the night on a farm close to Keri. He left briefly to a nearby town to get some items for cooking, only to return and find the child had soiled herself.
Overcome with anger, Kwame allegedly assaulted the child until she became unresponsive.
He reportedly took the unconscious child to the CHPS facility in Keri, from where she was transferred to the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Nkwanta. Sadly, she was confirmed dead despite several efforts by medical professionals to revive her.
Medical reports suggested the child had suffered serious injuries that matched signs of physical assault, which ultimately caused her death.
The hospital staff informed the police about the suspected abuse, leading to Kwame’s arrest and the filing of a murder charge against him.
During the court session led by Magistrate George Valentine Arhine, the gravity of the situation was clearly recognized.
The judge stated that more time was needed to thoroughly investigate the case and said the remand would allow police to gather all necessary evidence to support the legal process.
