A fire outbreak at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point has damaged an earthing transformer, causing widespread power outages in parts of Accra.
In a statement released on Sunday, May 4, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) confirmed that “the outage being experienced is as a result of a fire outbreak on the Earthing Transformer at the Achimota Bulk Supply Point (BSP).”
The incident has disrupted power supply to several areas, including Achimota, North Industrial Area, Kaneshie, Kokomlemle, Asylum Down, Pig Farm, Kotobabi, Circle, Adabraka, New Town, Nima, Gimpa, Kisseiman, and the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
Engineers from ECG are currently working to fix the issue. The company noted that “restoration of supply is expected to be completed by 2:00 pm today.”
“We regret the inconvenience caused to the affected customers,” ECG added, assuring the public of their commitment to restoring power as quickly as possible.
