Ghana will host its first-ever Ghana-International Shipping and Logistics Summit in July 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The two-day event, spearheaded by Akwaabaa Communication in collaboration with key industry players, will run under the theme: “Accelerating Action: Transforming Ghana’s Shipping & Logistics Sector for Global Competitiveness.”
The summit comes at a time when the country’s shipping and logistics sector is struggling with major challenges such as high costs, outdated infrastructure, and delays at the ports. These issues are making it harder for Ghana to compete in regional and global trade.
Industry assessments show that delays at Ghana’s ports cost businesses around $200 million each year in demurrage and storage fees. Cargo clearance can take up to two weeks—far longer than the global standard of one to three days. This, coupled with rising operational costs and limited access to credit, has slowed business growth and increased prices for consumers.
Despite the sector’s critical role in creating jobs and driving economic development, problems such as overlapping regulations, high charges, and poor stakeholder engagement continue to limit its potential.
Organisers say the summit will serve as a turning point by bringing together over 1,000 participants, including CEOs, government officials, logistics operators, investors, and trade experts.
The goal is to find practical solutions to the current bottlenecks and develop a roadmap for a more efficient and globally competitive logistics system.
The event will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, exhibitions, and networking sessions. These activities are expected to spark fresh ideas, promote partnerships, and highlight opportunities for reform and investment in the sector.
Stakeholders from across the shipping, transport, air cargo, and logistics industries—as well as academia and financial institutions—are expected to attend.
