The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the longstanding challenges within Ghana's healthcare system, stressing the urgent need for reform and a collective approach to improve the sector.

His remarks were made during a donation of essential medical equipment and supplies to the Tamale Teaching Hospital on April 24.

The donation included key items such as ECG machines, ICU ventilators, cardiac monitors, anesthesia machines, and infant incubators, alongside other vital consumables.

Among the highlighted equipment were Emergency Health Equipment (EHE) sets, nebulizer sets, and medical-grade towels.

Hon. Akandoh acknowledged the challenging working conditions that healthcare professionals continue to face and emphasized that tackling the sector's deep-rooted issues will require more than just government intervention.

He called for greater unity within the healthcare sector, urging medical practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists to collaborate effectively to ensure that the country’s limited resources are utilized efficiently.

He stressed the importance of placing the well-being of the average Ghanaian at the core of healthcare delivery and warned against practices that marginalize the underprivileged due to resource constraints.

Hon. Akandoh affirmed that every life in Ghana is valuable, and the healthcare system must reflect this belief in both policy and action.

While expressing a leadership style grounded in humility and respect for all health workers, the Minister acknowledged that change might come with challenges but emphasized that cooperation remains key to achieving sustainable improvements. He also urged health professionals at the Tamale Teaching Hospital to call off their ongoing strike and engage in constructive dialogue with the relevant authorities to find more effective solutions to their concerns.

This donation forms part of a broader national initiative aimed at modernizing healthcare infrastructure and improving the overall service delivery in Ghana's health sector.
