Iñaki Williams has been ruled out of Athletic Club’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Manchester United on Thursday.
The Spanish side confirmed on Wednesday that the Ghanaian forward will miss the crucial tie after picking up a muscle injury.
“Player Iñaki Williams has not been called up for the Europa League semi-final second leg match due to a muscle injury in the common tendon of the right hamstring,” the club said, adding, “His recovery will be monitored.”
Athletic Club’s 30-year-old forward was taken off after 62 minutes during Sunday’s league clash with Real Sociedad.
He shares the top scorer spot for the club in this season’s Europa League with five goals, tied with his younger brother, Nico Williams — who is also absent from the squad for the upcoming match.
With Manchester United carrying a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in Spain, Athletic face a steep uphill battle in Thursday’s return fixture at Old Trafford.
