Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has shared his disappointment after seeing the broken statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the Effia Nkwanta roundabout in Sekondi-Takoradi.
In a video posted online, Kwaw Kese stood by the damaged statue and spoke about how bad it looked.
He said it was sad and disrespectful for anyone to destroy a monument meant to honour a national figure. He called on Ghanaians to stop such actions, explaining that damaging state property does no good to anyone.
The statue was originally unveiled in November 2024 during President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the Western Region. It was put up to recognise his efforts in developing the area.
However, the statue has faced multiple acts of vandalism. The latest one happened on January 12, 2025, which left the statue headless and the base badly broken.
An earlier attack had damaged only the left leg, which was later fixed. But after these repeated incidents, the statue now appears beyond repair.
In the video, Kwaw Kese expressed concern over how much worse the statue looked now.
While some locals had said they didn’t support the idea of building the statue in the first place, others stressed that no matter their views, destroying public property was not the right way to go.
