Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has responded with humour to a recent health warning by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cautioning the public against consuming hot beverages and porridge from plastic bags.
The caution came after EPA's Ashanti Regional Director, Jackson Adiyiah Nyantakyi, claimed in a viral video that drinking porridge from plastic bags is as harmful as smoking 36 sticks of cigarettes.
Kinaata, reacting on May 4, 2025, via his X page, expressed surprise at the comparison, saying he had unknowingly “started smoking” at the age of two.
"The Bible even says man shall not live by bread alone. This means if you have bread, you should eat it with koko. Now they’re saying drinking porridge from a plastic bag is like smoking 36 sticks of cigarettes. Then that means we started smoking at age two because we drank porridge every morning," he quipped.
The artiste went on to jokingly request a final indulgence in his usual morning routine.
"The porridge they bought for me this morning is also in a plastic bag. Allow me to smoke my last 36 sticks. Someone should bring me a lighter so I can drink my last 36. After this, I won’t do it again. I’ll check into rehab right after," he added.
Kinaata’s remarks have sparked amusement online, adding a light-hearted twist to the serious health advisory.
Assay all jokes aside this calls for our attention. Let’s be safe out there ✌️😃 #HappySunday #AbanKaba pic.twitter.com/1CNfpD3jR9— Kofi Kinaata (@KinaataGh) May 4, 2025
