Michael Kpakpo Allotey has officially been confirmed as the new Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The confirmation took place during a Special General Assembly Meeting held on Tuesday at the Accra City Hall.
Assembly Members unanimously endorsed Mr. Allotey, with all 30 valid votes cast in his favor, securing a 100 percent approval.
The election, conducted by the Electoral Commission, exceeded the two-thirds majority required under Section 20 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).The voting process was supervised by the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, who, in her address prior to the election, urged members to carry out their constitutional duty by confirming the President’s nominee.
She stressed the strategic significance of the AMA, describing it as “the centre of Greater Accra,” and called on members not to let political divisions stand in the way of progress.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Allotey expressed deep gratitude to God and to President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting him with the leadership of the capital city. “I thank the President for entrusting me, a young man from North Kaneshie, with this responsibility. It is an honour I do not take lightly,” he said.
He paid tribute to past AMA leaders and pledged to build upon their accomplishments.
“I now hold the baton as Mayor of Accra. My predecessor has done her part, but today, it’s my turn. If I have any misunderstandings, I can seek advice from the many who have come before me so there is no window for failure,” he stated.
Outlining his immediate focus, the new Mayor aligned himself with the President’s development vision, stating, “We are going to restart Accra—starting now,” and affirming his faith by adding, “what God cannot do does not exist.”
Nene Drolor Bosso Adamtey I, the Greater Accra representative on the Council of State and Chairman of the Economic and Social Development Committee, urged Mr. Allotey to approach his new role with boldness and vision.
He challenged the Mayor to confront Accra’s pressing issues—including sanitation, urban congestion, housing, youth unemployment, and social equity—with both innovation and integrity.
“Leadership of this nature demands not only strategic foresight, but also empathy and discipline,” he noted.
Mr. Allotey brings extensive experience to the role, having worked for over a decade in the real estate, petroleum, and transportation sectors.
As CEO of Our God Is Good Real Estate, he led the construction of more than 200 affordable housing units in peri-urban areas of Accra, contributing to local job creation and infrastructure development.
He also held executive positions at KYG Consultancy and Lubricants, EXOLUBE Company Ltd, and DIMD Ghana, where he spearheaded logistical reforms that enhanced efficiency and reduced operational costs.
A staunch advocate of public-private partnerships, Mr. Allotey has also been active in politics, serving as Director of Operations for the Okaikwei South Constituency and holding various leadership positions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The confirmation ceremony was marked by jubilation, drumming, and traditional displays, attended by Assembly Members, government officials, chiefs, party executives, and residents, all united in welcoming the new Mayor of Accra.
