NPP flagbearership race: Prof Oquaye appointed chair of vetting committee

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has named Prof Mike Oquaye as the chairman of the party's Vetting Committee responsible for overseeing the selection process of the party's flagbearer.

On Tuesday, May 30, the National Steering Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) announced its decision to appoint Prof Mike Oquaye as the chairman of the party's Vetting Committee for the flagbearership contest.

In a press statement released on Friday, June 30, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, announced the appointment of Prof Mike Oquaye as the chairman of the party's Vetting Committee for the flagbearership contest.

As stated in the press release, the appointment of Prof Mike Oquaye as the chairman of the NPP's Vetting Committee for the flagbearership contest is in compliance with Article 10(3)(F)(ii) of the party's constitution.

Mr Kodua has subsequently inaugurated the committee. While at that, he urged the members to respect the party’s constitution and be transparent in their dealings.

The New Patriotic Party will elect a flagbearer ahead of the 2024 elections on November 4, 2023.

However, due to the numbers, the party will call a Special Congress on August 26, to prune it down to five.

So far, ten persons have filed their nomination forms to contest for the position.
