Members of Parliament’s Committee on Local Government and Rural Development have conducted an inspection tour of the Integrated Recycling and Compost Plant (IRECOP) facilities located in Dambai and Ho, within the Oti and Volta Regions.
The working visit formed part of the Committee’s oversight responsibility to monitor the development and impact of key sanitation and waste management initiatives across the country.
The IRECOP project, which is being implemented by the Jospong Group of Companies, aims to process and recycle municipal waste while generating compost for agricultural use.
Committee members noted that the establishment of the plants in the regions holds significant promise for managing urban waste more efficiently.
They also observed that the IRECOP initiative presents a viable economic opportunity by creating employment avenues for the youth and contributing to sustainable waste management practices.
During the engagement, representatives of the Jospong Group highlighted the need for government support in addressing outstanding payments owed to the company, stressing the importance of timely funding to ensure the smooth operation of the recycling facilities.
The Committee expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and underscored the potential of the IRECOP model in promoting environmental sustainability and boosting local economies.
