The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its preparedness to provide security for the completion of the 2024 Ablekuma North parliamentary election results, should the Electoral Commission (EC) resume the collation process.
Ablekuma North is the only constituency in the country still without a Member of Parliament, due to disputes over the outcome of the election.
Months after the national elections, the results for the constituency remain unresolved, leaving the area without parliamentary representation. During a press conference on Tuesday, May 6, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor, assured the public that the police are fully prepared to support the process when called upon.
She emphasized that the Ghana Police Service is always ready to provide security, stating, "If the EC is ready, we are always ready to provide the security, so I believe that we will take it up with the Inspector General of Police, but the service is always ready to provide the security support for any exercise. Whether it is the EC or any other institution."
Her comments signal that the Police Service is prepared to collaborate with the EC to finalize the electoral results and resolve the issue of representation in the Ablekuma North constituency.
