Established under Act 1070 (2021), the National Centre for the Coordination of Early Warning and Response Mechanism is tasked with detecting and addressing potential crises in Ghana and the wider West African region. The Centre operates by bridging the gap between early warning signals and decisive national responses, with a core focus on human security.
It works in close collaboration with various government institutions, civil society organisations (CSOs), and other key stakeholders to ensure timely, accurate warnings and the implementation of targeted response strategies.
Speaking after the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama emphasised the strategic importance of the board’s work in safeguarding both national and regional stability.
“This board represents a critical component of our national security architecture. Its work will be pivotal in ensuring we are prepared and able to respond effectively to emerging threats, safeguarding the well-being of our citizens and contributing to regional stability,” he said.
