Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has volunteered to pay for the tickets of thirty(30)of his backroom staff to take their families to next week’s Europa League final in Bilbao, Spain.
This comes after the club management informed him that his coaches, physios, and support team would have to pay for their tickets.
Amorim informed the club hierarchy that he would cover the cost himself to help his backroom staff travel with at least two friends or family members to the game."It's complicated for the club to stop giving (tickets) to all the members of staff, it's a hard position, then that situation was explained and in that moment, my reaction was to help. Because it's not going to...I'm not a good guy, and it's not going to change my life.(sic) And I had to help the staff to be comfortable and be better staff at the final," he said. The reaction of the players, according to Amorim, was no different from his; they were just not happy about the new directive on staff ticketing and travel expenses. Players have been allotted only two tickets each, with family and friends expected to cover their travel costs."Then they talked to the players, and the players had the same reaction. All the players had the same reaction at the same moment. Everybody has the staff there and same as their families. But it's hard to manage things in our club, so it's simple," he said. However, sources claim that United have taken the stand in order to ensure that supporters are able to purchase as many tickets as possible from the club’s 15,000 allocation for the game at Estadio San Mamés.
Manchester United is set to play against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao on May 21, and the winning team will not only earn a trophy but also secure their spot in the Champions League next season.Sir Jim Ratcliffe's part ownership of the club has followed several budget alterations, including 250 job cuts last year in February and the cancellation of the club's Christmas party, as well as the cancellation of free staff meals and free meals during training sessions.
The board is also considering more axing, as about 200 people risk losing their jobs at Old Trafford this summer, and has made two tickets for Bilbao available for staff to purchase rather than fund a complimentary trip to the final.
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), on the other announced that it would have 600 staff sponsored to attend their game against Inter Milan in Munich on May 31.
