The Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has launched an internal investigation into the death of a patient at its Accident and Emergency Ward, following claims of negligence circulating widely on social media.
In a statement issued on April 21, the hospital management expressed its sympathies to the family of the deceased and acknowledged the growing public concern about the circumstances surrounding the incident. The statement offered some context while assuring the public that the matter is being taken seriously.
According to the hospital, the patient in question was transferred from another health facility and needed a specialized medical procedure—one that TTH currently does not provide. Additionally, at the time of the patient’s arrival, all four Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, which cater to the entire Northern Ghana region, were reportedly full.
“The hospital is committed to full transparency and will communicate the outcomes of the investigation once concluded,” the statement read.
TTH has called on the public to remain calm and refrain from drawing conclusions prematurely, adding that a committee has been established to thoroughly investigate the case and uncover what led to the loss of life.
The hospital further reiterated its dedication to providing quality and compassionate healthcare, emphasizing ongoing initiatives aimed at improving emergency and critical care services to better meet the needs of the population it serves.
