The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has expressed concern that excessive attention on internal politics is weakening the party's strength and unity.
“It looks like we spend too much time on internal elections and then we keep hurting ourselves,” he said during an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse Show.
Nana Boakye said the ongoing internal processes have not only drained the energy of party members but also led to some experienced individuals withdrawing from active participation. “We know a number of persons who are laying their boots,” he added.
To address the issue, he recommended that the party conduct its presidential primaries earlier than usual to restore momentum and allow time for reconciliation ahead of the national elections.
“We just have to manage it in a proper manner. That is why for me, I have called for the presidential primaries to be conducted very early,” he noted.
His remarks follow recent tension within the NPP, including the withdrawal of 2024 flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong from the party’s “Thank You” tour. Agyapong cited security threats to his supporters after a KNUST student hired to perform at his event in Kumasi was stabbed.
The incident has heightened calls for better internal management to avoid divisions that could affect the party’s performance in future elections.
