The Ghana Education Service (GES) has indicated that Diana Asamoah, a student of Nkwatia Presby Senior High School, who was abused by the Assistant Headmaster of Academics, is currently receiving medical care.
She is also receiving counselling, the GES communicated in a press statement dated Monday, August 28, 2023.
The extreme physical abuse by the assistant headteacher, per reports, has left one Diana Asamoah partially blind.
Per reports circulating on social media, the female student was slapped on the cheek and caned for leaving school without an exeat.
But sources say Diana received permission to leave school for being unwell, however, her explanation was not welcomed by the assistant headteacher, who then meted out his punishment.
According to the Ghana Education Service, it unequivocally condemns the actions of the Assistant Headmaster, who is supposed to ensure that students and teachers operate in a safe school environment.
It has therefore relieved the Assistant Headmaster of Academics at Nkwatia Presby Senior High School in the Eastern Region of his duties.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Director of Education is liaising with the school authorities and the relevant law enforcement agency to investigate the matter.
