A coordinated surveillance operation between the Enchi Forest Division and military personnel led to the arrest of ten individuals involved in illegal mining activities within the Boin Forest Reserve in the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.
The suspects were caught in a section of the forest near the Ivory Coast border, an area increasingly targeted by illegal miners due to its rich mineral deposits and challenging terrain.
The Enchi Forest Division Manager, Joe Appiah Frimpong, confirmed the arrests, adding that the individuals have been handed over to the Enchi Police for further investigation and prosecution.
This operation is part of an ongoing effort to tackle illegal mining, which has been causing significant environmental damage to Ghana's forests.
The Boin Forest Reserve, in particular, has become increasingly vulnerable in recent years.
Frimpong issued a strong warning to individuals involved in similar activities, emphasizing that the Enchi Forest Division, in collaboration with other security agencies, will not cease their efforts to safeguard the integrity of the country's forest resources.
