Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that the establishment of Sports Fund is almost complete.
This fund is expected to deal with last-minute financial interventions by government and create a sustainable funding model for sports development.
“The Ministry has engaged with many of you on the matter of a sports fund, and we are inching closer to getting that really done,” Kofi said.
Kofi Adams made the revelation during a meeting with members of the Ghana Olympic Committee on Tuesday, May 13 at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation headquarters in Accra.
He emphasized that the initiative would help move beyond symbolic encouragement to provide tangible financial assistance.
“When it is done, it will reduce situations where we only offer spiritual backing without the necessary financial support.”
“[With the Sports Fund] We back you spiritually, and we back you with what it takes to participate,” he added.
On several occassions some sports federations in Ghana have faced major setbacks such as withdrawing from key international competitions due to funding challenges.
He acknowledged these challenges but and expressed optimism in the potency of the fund to address them all.
The Sports Fund was first publicly mentioned by Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, during his vetting process on February 11, 2025.
