US singer Chris Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges relating to his alleged bottle attack on a man on February 19, 2023, at the Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London.
He faces charges of hitting music producer Abraham Diaw multiple times with a tequila bottle and continuing to assault him after he fell unconscious.
The 36-year-old star is also accused of causing actual bodily harm to Mr Diaw with prosecutors describing the attack as one that happened "unprovoked".
Another one of his charges includes possessing an offensive weapon, i.e., a tequila bottle.
The two charges were added last month to a more serious count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), to which Mr Brown has already pleaded not guilty.
According to prosecutors, the alleged victim, Abraham Diaw, was standing at the bar of Soho's Tape nightclub on 19 February 2023 when Mr Brown struck him several times with a bottle.
He made his first appearance for the trial on Friday, June 20, at Southwark Crown Court in London.
On July 11, the singer pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.
His trial is slated for October 2026 and is expected to last five to seven days.
Fans numbering about twenty showed up in the public gallery to show support for their superstar.
On his way out of court, some shouted, with two saying, "we love you Chris".
Upon his arrival at the court, he gave a brief wave before putting his hand to his chest.
His arrest
Chris Brown was arrested at the Lowry Hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester, on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at approximately 2:00 AM.
This was after his arrival a day before to prepare for the UK leg of his European tour.
He was held in custody for a week and was later released after paying a security fee of £5 million to the court.
A security fee is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court. Mr Brown could be asked to forfeit the money if he breaches bail conditions, which were kept in place at Friday's hearing.
The bail conditions mandate him to live at an address in the UK while awaiting trial and also to submit his trial to the police.
He can only have access to his passport when it is time for him to honour his Breezy Bowl XX world tour dates.
He has played a string of stadium and arena shows across the UK and Europe in recent weeks, ending in Paris last weekend. The North American leg of his tour is due to start later this month and end on 18 October.
Mr Brown is one of the biggest stars in US R&B, with two Grammy Awards, and 19 top 10 singles in the UK, including hits like "Turn Up The Music," "Freaky Friday," "With You," and "Don't Wake Me Up."
His co-defendant, Omololu Akinlolu, a 39-year-old American who performs under the name HoodyBaby, also pleaded not guilty to causing actual bodily harm. He previously entered a not guilty plea to the charge of attempted grievous bodily harm.
