United States rapper Kanye West has been banned from entering Australia over the release of his Heil Hitler song.
The song was independently released on May 8, 2025, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke made the announcement today in an interview with the ABC’s Afternoon Briefing program when he was responding to questions about the visa cancellation of an Israeli-American tech advocate who wrote, “Islamophobia is rational.”
The authorities say Kanye's visa has been revoked for referencing the Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
Tony Burke added that he would not permit anyone entry into Australia to embark on a speaking tour if they argued that either Islamophobia or antisemitism was “rational."
“Most of the visas that have been cancelled under this section have been where someone was seeking to make a public speech,” he said. “The only one I can think of where it wasn’t for public advocacy – the visa – but we cancelled it anyway, would be Kanye West,” he explained.
Mr Burke acknowledged that Kanye's wife, Bianca Censori hails from Melbourne, and travels to Australia often to see her faimily.
However, that could no more save Kanye West“made a lot of offensive comments that my officials looked at again once he released the Heil Hitler song and he no longer has a valid visa in Australia”.
Responding to the question of whether it is sustainable to maintain the ban in light of potential international concerts, Mr Burke replied:
“I think that what’s not sustainable is to import hatred. Every visa application gets reassessed by my officials each time. I’m not taking away the way the act operates, but even for the lowest level of visa, when my officials looked at it, they cancelled that following the announcement of that song.”
In 2024, Ye faced a lawsuit from his former personal assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, who alleged that he sent her racist, vulgar, and inappropriate texts and videos.
According to the lawsuit, Pisciotta, a successful OnlyFans model, was hired by West in 2021 after he discovered her bikini pictures.
He reportedly offered her a $1 million annual salary on the condition that she delete her OnlyFans account, which she agreed to.
Shortly after being hired, Pisciotta claimed that Kanye West (now Ye) began sending her a series of offensive messages.
One text read, “See, my problem is I be wanting to f, but then after f, I want a girl to tell me how hard they been fed while I’m fing them. Then I want her to cheat on me!”
